A leading global engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal BMS Engineer to join its growing team, supporting high-profile projects within the data centre and mission‑critical sectors. With a strong international presence and ambitious growth plans, this organisation is at the forefront of delivering innovative, high-performance engineering solutions. This role offers the opportunity to shape best‑in‑class Building Management System (BMS) strategies across complex, large‑scale developments.
The Role
Reporting to a senior leadership figure within BMS/Controls, you will act as a technical authority for BMS design and delivery. You will play a key role in ensuring projects meet the highest technical standards while supporting the wider business in advancing capability and innovation. This is a hands‑on, client‑facing role, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and specialist consultants.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of BMS designs, specifications, and technical documentation
- Act as a subject matter expert across BMS and integrated systems (e.g. security, fire, access control, IT networks)
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver fully integrated, high‑quality designs
- Chair and contribute to client meetings, workshops, and technical presentations
- Review contractor submissions, tender documentation, and technical proposals
- Support project delivery through site inspections, commissioning oversight, and witnessing activities
- Manage deliverables and resources in line with programme requirements
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in BMS design and implementation
- Mentor and support junior engineers, strengthening technical capability across teams
About You
You will bring a strong technical background and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to influence both project outcomes and team development. Key requirements include:
- Extensive experience in BMS design and controls engineering
- Proven experience integrating BMS with systems such as access control, fire, security, and IT infrastructure
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and building services systems
- Experience working within consultancy or complex project environments
- Knowledge of sustainable design principles and low‑carbon technologies
- Familiarity with IT networking and system integration
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach with strong problem‑solving capability
