CMS2 is a specialist equipment manufacturer supplying maritime atmosphere control systems and support services. CMS2 are experts in enabling high availability atmosphere management systems to generate breathable air for submariners, allowing boats to remain underwater for long periods of time. We do this by combining over sixty years of expertise with the latest technology and processes to design, build and support high quality systems and solutions.
We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team to support the creation of novel engineering solutions for new product introduction as well as developing improvements to the existing product line.
Key Responsibilities- Manage design improvement/obsolescence activities for assigned projects and provide technical guidance in line with the Product Specification to the engineering resources.
- Manage the flow of information between multiple departments.
- Implement changes to maintain specifications and drawings.
- Create and maintain Product Bills of Materials.
- Review the content of standard project documentation (technical, operation, maintenance manuals).
- Report on the technical content of projects to the Project Managers and support multi‑departmental reviews to ensure the right approach is followed.
- Identify technical risks and provide support to Project Managers, working on appropriate risk‑management strategies.
- Support and mentor junior Project Engineers.
- Assist Project Managers with technical queries from customers and participate in customer communication.
- Track activities to project plans and budgets, regularly reporting progress to the Project Managers.
- Support the business in providing information for proposals.
- Provide technical support for procurement throughout the project lifecycle to ensure timely supplier responses.
- Support the SQE and Quality team to resolve quality issues, including raising formal requests, fault finding and test support.
- Support engineering design as required by the project.
- Support technicians with issues or problems arising during the build cycle.
- Support Test Technicians and Commissioning Engineers as required by the project.
- Support Site Engineers during off‑site work with information, materials and liaison with internal resources.
- Ensure project activities are delivered as defined by the Project Manager, including design reviews, FMEAs and appropriate test plans.
- Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or absence.
- Maintain continuous professional development to keep knowledge up to date.
- Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public.
- Carry out any other ad‑hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.
- HND or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering or a related subject.
- Substantial experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, self‑motivation and the ability to work well under one’s own initiative.
- Ability to build long‑term successful client partnerships, both internally and externally.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Proficiency in reading and using Gantt charts and project plans.
- Previous experience with an ERP system.
- Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong presentation skills, confident and professionally presented.
- Experience working on multiple projects.
- Practical competence in mechanical or system assembly.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience working within a Defence environment.
- Knowledge of ISO9000 or a similar QA system.
- Must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
- Must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level (expected to have five years residence in the UK).
The duties of this appointment relate to the UK, but you may be required to travel when required by the Company. It is not envisaged that you shall be required to work outside the UK for more than one month.
