An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of a major fleet technology upgrade programme within a nationally recognised organisation. This role will focus on replacing legacy technology systems used across key operational assets, alongside supporting the introduction of new assets and vessels into service. The programme includes supplier management, rollout coordination, operational readiness, governance, and significant business change activity.
Working within a highly operational and safety‑critical environment, you’ll oversee the delivery of a multi‑million‑pound programme that directly supports frontline services.
The Opportunity
You’ll lead a flagship programme replacing a 20+ year‑old bespoke technology platform with a modern commercial off‑the‑shelf solution. The rollout spans more than 400 operational assets, multiple asset types, engineering workstreams, third‑party suppliers, and extensive operational change activity. This is not a purely technical IT delivery role. The successful candidate will combine strong project delivery capability with commercial awareness, operational understanding, business change expertise, and confident stakeholder leadership.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading a complex, high‑profile, multi‑million‑pound transformation programme from trial through to rollout
- Coordinating multiple workstreams including engineering, suppliers, rollout planning, operational readiness, and business change
- Managing governance, RAID activities, reporting, budgets, and delivery timelines
- Operating across both structured delivery and agile discovery activity where required
- Building strong relationships across engineering, operational, and portfolio teams
- Managing demanding stakeholders with confidence, credibility, and emotional intelligence
- Balancing pace of delivery with governance, safety, and operational risk considerations
- Bringing clarity, structure, and momentum to a fast‑moving programme environment
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years’ experience operating as a Senior Project Manager delivering large‑scale transformation programmes involving both technology and business change, ideally within operational or safety‑critical environments where governance, risk, and health & safety considerations are key
- A blend of business and technology delivery experience
- Experience managing complex operational or engineering‑led projects
- Strong planning and coordination capability across project teams, suppliers, and delivery activities
- Strong business change experience, with the ability to manage the operational impact on end users and support large‑scale changes to systems, processes, and ways of working
- The ability to challenge constructively, navigate complexity, and remain pragmatic under pressure
- Experience within engineering, transport, manufacturing, defence, infrastructure, marine, or asset‑heavy environments would be advantageous, but is not essential
- Formal PM qualifications (APM, Prince2, MSP, etc.) are welcomed, although substantial practical delivery experience will be equally valued.
The Environment
This environment suits individuals who are adaptable, resilient, hands‑on, and comfortable operating in fast‑paced settings where priorities evolve and stakeholder engagement is critical. If you’re a senior‑level PM who thrives in complex operational environments and enjoys bringing calm, structure, and momentum to high‑impact programmes, we’d love to hear from you.
