The role: We are looking for a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to support delivery of civil/structural subway systems as part of the subways Team. Lead on the Structural / Civil works required for refurbishment design proposals for the existing extant subways within the 10D site. Development of new / alternative designs. Lead the design team with assessing the findings of recent condition surveys, within the extant subways, and develop a strategy / design for the remediation of these subways. This will need to be coordinated with existing utilities and proposed to ensure that all design requirements are met. Day-to-day, you’ll be supporting the engineering capability of the new systems through the design lifecycle in accordance with the design process.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage one or more technical design packages ensuring requirements are met through the design process
- Provide technical design guidance and review of sub‑contract design to ensure compliance with specifications, technical regulations and standards
- Collaboration across engineering functions and stakeholders to integrate designs within the overall facility layout and manage interfaces
- Maintaining the engineering configuration of the design intent (change control)
Essential Experience
- Design of high complex services subways/routes preferably in a Nuclear/Regulated environment
- Regulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to civil/structural design and construction (including Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM)
- Substantiation of SFR's when identified within systems to support the nuclear safety case
- Able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle
- Provide expert advice to the sub‑contracted design houses to enable them to develop the design
- Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements
- Experience of working in BIM environments
- Awareness of project planning, project management and budgeting
- Sound understanding of company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health
