TQR is working exclusively with a global manufacturer based at their Plymouth site to recruit an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer on a static night shift due to a vast increase in their order book. Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, the successful candidate will play a critical hands-on role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all machinery on site. The position is responsible for both reactive and planned maintenance, first-fix repairs, and accurate CMMS documentation. Working closely with the Maintenance Team Leader and Production Team Leaders, the successful candidate will contribute to asset uptime, quality performance, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety & Compliance: Complete all maintenance tasks in line with site safety procedures, risk assessments, permit-to-work policies and legal requirements. Perform dynamic risk assessments prior to each job; elevate hazards where required. Maintain tidy, safe work areas using a clean-as-you-go and 5S approach.
  • Reactive & Corrective Maintenance: Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns across manufacturing and site services, ensuring permanent and robust fixes. Communicate findings, actions taken, and follow-up needs to the Maintenance Team Leader. Support root cause analysis (RCA) and contribute technical insights to CI initiatives.
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance: Execute PPM tasks as scheduled, ensuring quality completion within timeframes. Identify and report defects, trends, or improvement needs during PPM routines. Support continuous improvement of PPM routines to enhance asset reliability.
  • CMMS & Data Integrity: Accurately record defect details, actions taken, fault codes, and parts used. Ensure data quality is suitable for analysis by the Engineering team. Support improvements in CMMS usage and standardisation.
  • Technical Support & Expertise: Apply strong electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic skills to diagnose complex issues. Provide technical support for installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing (FAT) of new equipment. Act as a technical reference point for colleagues and apprentices.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure efficient factory operation. Communicate issues, progress, and solutions through formal and informal meetings. Build strong relationships to support uptime, quality, and safety goals.
  • Electrical Maintenance & Fault-Finding: Lead on electrical diagnostics and permanent fault resolution across injection moulding machinery, drives, safety circuits, and ancillary equipment. Support electrical installations and carry out fault-finding on electrical facility systems, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable operation of site services and building infrastructure. Act as the primary point of contact for electrical breakdowns requiring in-depth analysis.

Essential Experience & Candidate Attributes

  • Proven experience working as an Electrical Maintenance Engineer gained from either manufacturing or engineering.
  • ONC / NVQ Level 3 / HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Completed Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with CMMS platforms.
  • Competence with pneumatics, hydraulics, variable speed drives.
  • Knowledge of RCA tools (5 Whys, fishbone, etc.).
  • Strong fault-finding experience on electrical systems.
  • Understanding of H&S regulations and safe systems of work.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with structured approach.
  • Effective communicator able to articulate technical findings to non-technical colleagues.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Calm and methodical under pressure.
  • Team player who collaborates across functions.

The successful candidate will work static night shift comprising Monday to Friday 22:00 to 06:00; however, there may be a requirement to train on weekly shift rotation of Monday to Friday 06:00 to 14:00 and Monday to Friday 14:00 to 22:00 for the first couple of months prior to starting work on night shift.
