We are a dynamic group of Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Industrial Designers who provide the industry’s only statistically certified inspection solution. We provide our services to a broad range of industries including automotive, aerospace, munitions, medical, and bearing manufacturers.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing portions of the inspection system and/or associated tooling. You will work on sub-systems involving part handling, lighting, optics, and precision mechanics. Machine design at Retina Systems starts with understanding the functional requirements and deriving specifications. You will collaborate with project managers, vendors, and customers in a project team to develop concepts, build and test prototypes, generate detailed CAD designs, create engineering drawings, and support system integration and testing.
Job responsibilities:
- Design and detail components, systems, and complete machines to customer specifications
- Assist sales with technical inquiries and quoting
- Work with machinists and assembly technicians to bring your designs to life
- Interface with customers via phone, email, and occasional travel to customer sites
- Communicate with vendors to specify and find commercially available components

BSME or equivalent experience

We are seeking an individual with a strong background in mechanical design and engineering. We would like an individual who can take responsibility of the full development cycle, from initial concept to product realization. A background in mechanical design of automation systems is desirable, as well as good complex mechanical system intuition.
- 2–6 years of experience in machine design, but will consider others with proven history
- Experience with 3D solid modeling for design conceptualization and realization (SolidWorks)
- Demonstrated ability to derive conclusions from analysis and make practical recommendations
- Machine shop experience a plus (ability to use manual knee mill, lathe)
- CAM experience (programming and running a 3-axis mill)
- Experience with vibratory feeds systems is desirable
