Planning Lawyer – Nottingham (Local Authority Role)
Contract role – Hourly rate negotiable. Full time, 37 hours per week (considered for less). 1 day per week in office.
Responsibilities
- Prepare s106 Agreements.
- Prepare Highways Agreements under s38 and s278 of the Highways Act.
- Analyse applications and draft certificates of lawful use.
- Give general advice on Planning and Highways matters.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
- Analyse legal issues and make decisions with minimum supervision.
- Organise own workload and work under pressure with minimum supervision.
- Communicate clearly orally and in writing; deliver concise advice and submissions.
- Type and prepare letters and documents accurately; demonstrate basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office, Teams and Zoom.
- Work within the Council’s case management system and follow basic time‑recording practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience dealing with complex drafting work.
- Ability to advise on policy and strategic matters.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience attending and advising at Planning Committee.
- Knowledge of Planning Enforcement.
- Knowledge of other Local Government practice areas such as criminal litigation (but not civil), licensing and regulatory law, constitutional and administrative law.
- Willingness to learn and undertake highways work.
