Overview

The Briggs Equipment Group is a leading provider of asset management and maintenance solutions across the UK and Ireland.

The Field Service Engineer role is permanent and based at Heysham Port.

The candidate should apply even if not all criteria are met, as training and development are available.

Responsibilities

  • Attend customer locations to determine the scope of work, assess and agree with the end user on work priorities, and ensure safe working practices are adhered to.
  • Liaise with the controller and customer at the outset and as work progresses to clarify and agree on expected work, timescales, and costs.
  • Identify the root cause of breakdowns and ensure the correct parts are obtained in the most cost‑effective way, using available resources including the Briggs Technical team where required.
  • Ensure all work complies with engineering standards and, where relevant, Briggs or manufacturer specifications/tolerances.
  • Carry out inspections/checks on own work as it proceeds and verify that equipment performs satisfactorily and is safe before handing back to the customer.
  • Identify any further work required on a machine and inform the customer, especially where a cost to the customer is incurred.
  • Maximise potential revenue for equipment that has been damaged and complete related job and service documentation with necessary signatures and documents obtained from the customer.

Qualifications

  • Relevant technical qualification and previous experience in a similar role.
  • Good understanding of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical principles.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload and understand customer needs.
  • What you can expect from us
  • 40 hour working week; overtime is payable at x1.5 Monday – Saturday and x2 on Sunday.
  • 25 days holiday with the ability to buy an extra 3 days.
