Role Profile
Our client is one of the UK's largest independent plant hire businesses, looking to recruit a Senior Transport Planner to lead their team in Flintshire.
Operating a fleet of over 70 vehicles across over 12 depots nationwide, our client provides a strong network of plant, tools and specialist equipment to customers throughout the UK.
Reporting into the Transport Manager, you'll lead a team of three Transport Planners, with a fourth due to join, ensuring the efficient planning and movement of plant and equipment across the UK.
This is a fast‑paced role where every day presents new logistical challenges, from coordinating specialist equipment between depots to managing urgent customer requests and maximising fleet utilisation.
The role is Monday‑Friday, 7am-6pm with occasional flexibility needed for weekend administration tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule daily deliveries and collections of plant equipment.
- Lead and support a team of Transport Planners, ensuring workloads are effectively managed.
- Plan the nationwide movement of plant, tools and specialist equipment across multiple depots.
- Maximise fleet utilisation while ensuring customer service levels are consistently achieved.
- Make commercial decisions under pressure to resolve operational challenges.
- Manage driver schedules and daily transport activity to optimise equipment availability.
- Liaise with drivers and depot teams to ensure equipment is delivered on time.
- Monitor vehicle tracking systems and respond proactively to any delays or issues.
- Key Skills & Experience
- Previous transport planning experience within plant hire is essential.
- Strong understanding of planning the movement of heavy plant, equipment or specialist assets.
- Excellent problem‑solving ability with confidence to make decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication skills with experience of managing relationships across drivers, depots and operational teams.
- Experience using transport planning or plant hire management systems would be desirable.
- Commercially aware with the ability to balance customers expectations against operational efficiency.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Positive ambitious and comfortable working in a fast‑moving environment.
