We have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance team at our Coppermills Water Treatment Site. As a successful candidate, you will be using your mechanical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe efficient timely and effective manner with minimum supervision allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefits of our customers. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.
What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician:
- Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
- Provide technical advice, refer to up‑to‑date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
- Work on equipment including motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3‑phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
- Complete statutory checks as required.
- Always work safely and comply with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.
Base Location: Coppermills - East London - E17 7HE
Working Pattern: 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus standby & overtime opportunity increasing earnings by a potential £8,000-£10,000. All PPE, Tools and Van are Provided.
Application requirements:
- You should be a time‑served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering.

- An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
- Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.

- Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
- Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
- Full UK driving licence.
