The Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Multiskilled Engineer to deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, and breakdown support across a prestigious healthcare and research facility. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring building services systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.
Working within a live environment, you will be responsible for fault diagnosis, repairs, compliance activities, contractor supervision, and maintaining high standards of health & safety, service delivery, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, and breakdown support across mechanical, electrical, and building services systems.
- Diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and monitor plant performance to ensure operational efficiency and identify improvement opportunities.
- Accurately complete maintenance records, permits, E-Forms, and compliance documentation using CAFM systems and mobile technology.
- Conduct Point of Work Risk Assessments (POWRA) and ensure all activities comply with Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, and Permit to Work procedures.
- Supervise subcontractors, maintain plant rooms and engineering areas to a high standard, and ensure all tools and test equipment remain safe and compliant.
- Participate in the on-call rota and respond to emergency breakdowns outside normal working hours when required.
Essential Requirements
- Recognised Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years' post‑qualification experience within building services or facilities maintenance
- Experience delivering both planned and reactive maintenance in commercial or industrial environments
- Strong fault‑finding and maintenance knowledge across building services systems
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Experience using CAFM systems and mobile maintenance technology
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work
- Willingness to participate in an out‑of‑hours standby rota
Desirable Skills
- BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification
- Previous Facilities Management (FM) experience
- Experience supervising subcontractors and specialist service providers
- Knowledge of Permit to Work systems and compliance procedures
- Understanding of KPI and SLA‑driven service delivery environments
- IOSH Working Safely or other Health & Safety qualification
- Multi‑skilled mechanical and electrical maintenance background
- Experience working within healthcare, critical, commercial, or industrial facilities
