As a Sales & Tendering Engineer, you will support customer enquiries and orders, playing a key role in the preparation and delivery of multi-utility tenders. You will be responsible for producing accurate, commercially sound, and competitive tender submissions within your remit. Building and maintaining strong client relationships is essential, while applying your technical knowledge, training, and experience to deliver high-quality, robust proposals. You will be confident in providing technical advice and engaging with clients both remotely and face-to-face, ensuring all submissions are clear, accurate, and error-free.

Reporting to the Tendering Manager or Head of Tendering, you will produce tender documentation, cost estimates, and technical design inputs for LV and HV electrical network connections, typically up to 11 kV. You will support the development of robust engineering solutions that comply with DNO/IDNO requirements, statutory regulations, G81 standards, ENA guidelines, and CDM obligations. Working closely with internal engineering, civils, and delivery teams, and external stakeholders such as DNOs, IDNOs, suppliers, and subcontractors, you will produce comprehensive tender submissions that are technically sound, commercially viable, and aligned with client requirements.

Implement AIS practices and processes to ensure customer satisfaction, delivering tenders on time and in line with adoptable standards and client expectations, while supporting overall project objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare tender designs, proposals, and cost estimates for multi-utility projects in line with project requirements.
  • Support the Regional Sales & Tendering Manager and Senior Sales & Tendering Engineer as required.
  • Represent the company professionally and effectively when engaging with clients and stakeholders.
  • Manage and prioritise assigned tender projects to ensure timely, compliant, and accurate submissions.
  • Lead development and technical review of tender submissions across electricity, gas, and water utility disciplines, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements, industry standards, and client specifications.
  • Provide specialist input into gas and water network design, reinforcement, diversion, and connection solutions, ensuring constructability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Apply in-depth understanding of gas distribution networks, water infrastructure systems, connection processes, adoptable standards, and utility asset requirements to develop robust and commercially viable tender solutions.
  • Undertake technical and commercial risk assessment across multi-utility scopes, focusing on gas and water interface risks, permitting constraints, and constructability challenges.
  • Liaise with design, operational, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure gas and water elements of tenders are fully coordinated and buildable.
  • Contribute to value-engineering opportunities within gas and water scopes to improve competitiveness and delivery efficiency.
  • Contribute to individual and company-wide sales targets.
  • Ensure smooth project handover to the Design team upon successful tender award.
  • Maintain accurate sales and project documentation in line with the Business Management System (BMS).
  • Commit to continuous professional development.
Experience & Skills
  • Strong motivation to succeed, learn, and apply new skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a multi-utility environment.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced utility, construction, or engineering sales environment.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Understanding of tendering within MEICA, utilities, or T&D network environments.
  • NVQ Level 6 (or equivalent) in technical sales, engineering, construction, or management.
  • Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Experience in design development and producing detailed quotations.
  • Background in the multi-utility industry.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project (for basic tender programmes).
  • Relevant certifications (Eusr, CSCS, ECS, First Aid at Work).
  • Experience delivering ICP (Independent Connection Provider) projects.
  • Experience with HV/LV electrical infrastructure and utility network developments.
  • Experience with EV charging infrastructure or distributed energy renewable projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of contestable works.
  • Understanding of DNO and IDNO technical standards.
  • Experience in substation and cable design preferably up to 11 kV (experience up to 33 kV / 132 kV advantageous but not essential).

Lead risk identification, mitigation, and commercial review across all tender submissions, with a particular focus on utility interface risks and constructability challenges.
