The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in the day‑to‑day management of a busy engineering department responsible for maintaining a modern fleet of buses, including the latest electric vehicle technology.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Engineering Manager in leading the engineering function
  • Ensuring maximum fleet availability and vehicle reliability
  • Maintaining compliance with DVSA, operator, and industry standards
  • Promoting a strong Health & Safety culture across the workshop
  • Managing employee wellbeing and fatigue management processes
  • Supervising engineering teams and supporting their development
  • Assisting with maintenance planning and operational performance
  • Driving continuous improvement across workshop operations

Requirements

  • Previous supervisory or management experience within a commercial vehicle, HGV, PSV, bus, coach, or fleet maintenance environment
  • Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and vehicle bodywork repairs
  • Experience managing workshop teams and operational performance
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and decision‑making skills
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation
  • Ability to obtain a Transport Manager CPC if required
  • PSV experience is highly desirable, although candidates from HGV, commercial vehicle, fleet, plant, or similar heavy vehicle backgrounds will also be considered
