Primary Purpose of Position
Perform design engineering management and oversight of nuclear power plant extended power uprate design engineering team. The team is multi-disciplined focused on issuing specifications, modification change packages, upgrade selections, and field engineering support (walkdowns). Maintain accountability of engineering plant modifications intended to enable increased power plant performance. Projects include but are not limited to expansion of power train pumping systems, plant cooling systems, auxiliary electrical systems, plant control systems, reactor auxiliary systems. Utilize experience and engineering skills to ensure adequacy of design engineering activities as the manager responsible for individuals and projects. Knowledge of applicable industry codes and regulations.
Primary Duties and Accountabilities
- Provide in-depth technical expertise to manage and approve power plant modifications, engineering analysis, activities, and programs.
- Provide technical expertise and consultation through direct involvement and as a design engineering manager when consulted.
- Manage, identify, communicate, and resolve equipment procurement, equipment reliability, and system problems.
- Directly fulfill engineering and technical leadership accountability regarding short-term and long-term projects that impact site operations.
- Perform engineering and technical tasks assigned by supervision applying general engineering principles.
- Accountable for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work ensuring proper configuration management and assuring that standard design criteria, practices, procedures, and codes are used in preparation of plans and specifications.
- Perform independent research, reviews, studies, and analyses in support of technical projects and programs.
- Recommend equipment, new concepts, and techniques to improve performance, simplify procurement and construction, reduce costs, correct design or material flaws, or comply with changes in codes or regulations.
- All other job assignments and/or duties pursuant to company policy or as directed by management to include but not limited to: Emergency Response duties and/or coverage, Department duty coverage and/or call out, and positions outside of department in support of outage activities etc.
- Communicate with turbine Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), specialty consultants, supplemental engineering, and project implementation teams strategically to ensure successful project implementation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, or nuclear) OR related science OR License Professional Engineer OR Active/Inactive SRO License with 5 years of engineering or related experience, which shall include 1 year of nuclear power plant experience.
- Maintain minimum access requirements or unescorted access requirements, as applicable, and favorable medical examination and/or testing in accordance with position duties.
Qualifications
- Supervisory or managerial experience.
- Professional Engineer Registration.
- Advanced technical degree or related coursework.
- 5 years of nuclear plant design engineering experience.
- Experience with power plant thermal performance assessments.
