We are seeking an experienced and proactive Traffic Planner to join a busy transport operation. This role is responsible for delivering efficient transport planning, ensuring excellent service levels, maintaining compliance, and maximising operational efficiency across a diverse fleet.
The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating vehicle movements, communicating with drivers and customers, and ensuring transport operations run smoothly while meeting all regulatory and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Produce timely and accurate transport plans to support daily operational requirements.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers and drivers, ensuring clear communication and service excellence.
- Manage a varied fleet including refrigerated trailers, curtain‑sided trailers, tankers, vans, rigid vehicles and specialist transport equipment.
- Ensure all loads comply with weight, temperature, security and legislative requirements.
- Source and maximise backload opportunities to optimise fleet utilisation and revenue.
- Monitor transport operations to ensure efficient movement of goods while controlling costs.
- Communicate delays and service issues to customers promptly and professionally.
- Produce customer reports and KPI information as required.
- Support quality management initiatives and ensure adherence to company procedures and customer‑specific requirements.
- Report, investigate and follow up on incidents and accidents.
- Coordinate vehicle and trailer servicing, inspections, MOTs and maintenance schedules.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene, security, fraud prevention and industry standards.
- Support driver compliance and training requirements in partnership with operational teams.
- Previous experience within a transport planning, traffic planning or logistics planning role.
- Strong understanding of transport operations, fleet management and logistics processes.
- Working knowledge of drivers' hours regulations, tachograph legislation and transport compliance requirements.
- Experience using transport management systems and associated digital platforms.
- Strong geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to make decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Knowledge of refrigerated transport operations would be advantageous.
