The role:
- Complete clear, accurate shift handovers to ensure continuity of planned and reactive work.
- Use the site’s planned maintenance / CMMS system to prioritise tasks, support fault-finding and capture corrective actions (including RCFA where required).
- Diagnose faults and test, repair and maintain a range of mechanical and electrical manufacturing equipment.
- Proactively identify early signs of failure, log findings accurately and maintain strong data quality within the CMMS.
- Liaise with OEMs and external suppliers for technical support; support parts identification and expedite spares when required.
- Lead shift-based problem solving where the corrective action isn’t immediately clear, driving ownership through to closure.
- Work collaboratively with the on-shift response team to ensure fast, safe restoration of equipment availability.
- Coach operators on basic asset care tasks to improve equipment reliability and reduce repeat breakdowns.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements that improve safety, uptime, quality and cost.
- Spot lifecycle / obsolescence risks and raise recommendations for repair, refurbishment or replacement planning.
- Use structured root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Why, basic OE/CI techniques) through to robust, sustainable fixes.
- Support and maintain 5S standards within workshops, stores and maintenance areas.
The Person:
- Time-served / recognised engineering apprenticeship.
- Strong experience in maintenance engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Mechanical or Electrical bias with proven hands‑on fault finding capability.
- Comfortable working as a multiskilled engineer in a fast‑paced production setting.
- Qualification to ONC/HNC level (or equivalent experience).
- Relevant electrical qualification (where applicable to your bias).
- Desirable IOSHH / NEBOSH (or equivalent).
