The Role
Reporting to a Senior Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager, the Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial management of construction projects from pre-construction through to final account. The successful candidate will gain exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying and will be given the opportunity to progress within a growing business. The role will involve assisting with procurement, cost reporting, subcontractor management and financial administration while supporting the wider project delivery team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the commercial management of construction projects throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support the procurement of subcontract packages, including obtaining quotations and tender analysis.
- Assist in preparing subcontract orders and contract documentation.
- Measure and value works completed on site.
- Assist with the preparation of interim applications and valuations.
- Process subcontractor applications and payment recommendations.
- Support the management of variations and change control.
- Assist in producing monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Monitor project costs and assist with forecasting exercises.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
- Support the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
- Attend project meetings with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
- Work closely with site teams to monitor progress and commercial performance.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities and report findings to senior team members.
Requirements
- Degree, HNC or HND qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline.
- 1–4 years' experience within a Quantity Surveying or Assistant Quantity Surveyor role.
- Previous experience working for a main contractor, subcontractor or consultancy considered.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Understanding of construction contracts, preferably JCT.
- Good communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Eager to learn and develop a long-term career in Quantity Surveying.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on commercial, leisure, retail or mixed-use projects.
- Knowledge of procurement processes and subcontractor management.
- Working towards professional accreditation such as RICS or CIOB.
