Job Description

London | Hybrid (3 days office-based) | Permanent | Full Time

On behalf of our client, we are recruiting for an experienced Head of Technical & Operations to join a specialist insurance business operating within the Lloyd's and London Market (Marine).

This is a key leadership role focused on driving operational excellence, technical governance and continuous improvement across the business.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across Broking, Finance and Compliance, you'll ensure operational processes, systems and controls support sustainable growth while maintaining exceptional service standards.

The Opportunity

This role combines operational leadership with technical expertise.

You'll oversee broking systems, data governance, operational workflows and technical standards, ensuring the business operates efficiently, compliantly and with high-quality management information.

You'll also play a significant role in identifying opportunities for automation, process improvement and business change, helping shape the future operational capability of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and enhance operational processes, governance and technical standards.
  • Oversee broking systems, data management and operational workflows.
  • Drive improvements in data quality, reporting and management information.
  • Support the effective oversight of Insurance Broking Accounts (IBA).
  • Deliver operational and commercial insight to support business decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation and system enhancements.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external technology providers.
  • Act as the technical and operational subject matter expert across the business.
  • Support wider strategic initiatives and operational change programmes.

About You

We're looking for an experienced insurance professional who brings

  • Significant experience within insurance operations, technical support or operational management.
  • Strong understanding of insurance broking processes and the end-to-end placement lifecycle.
  • Marine insurance sector knowledge
  • Experience managing broking platforms and delivering system improvements.
  • Knowledge of data governance, reporting and operational controls.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across all levels.
  • A proactive approach to driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Desirable Experience

  • Exposure to the Lloyd's and London Market.
  • Experience with platforms such as GPM, Acturis, Whitespace, Brokertech, Yellowbox or similar.
  • Knowledge of Insurance Broking Accounts (IBA).
  • Familiarity with Xchanging processes, LPANs and bordereaux.
  • Experience delivering operational change, business transformation or project initiatives.
