The Company

A renowned and growing marine transport and infrastructure operator is entering a new phase of modernisation and growth, with major capital projects underway across vessels, piers, and customer-facing environments. With a small senior team driving a wide variety of operational, construction and fleet-related upgrades, the business is now strengthening its project capability to ensure high-quality delivery across its portfolio. This is an opportunity to join a lean, focused leadership group where your work has a visible, city-wide impact.

The Role

We’re looking for a Director of Project Delivery to oversee the planning, governance and execution of major operational and capital projects. You’ll manage a Project Manager and Project Executive, working closely with the COO and wider senior leadership team to ensure the portfolio progresses on time, on budget and to the highest safety and operational standards. Projects span vessel upgrades (including new electric craft), pier construction and redevelopment, marine works, and broader infrastructure improvements - requiring someone comfortable leading delivery in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments. This role suits someone confident operating at senior level while still maintaining a hands‑on approach to delivery, risk management and contractor oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead governance and oversight of the full project portfolio, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy
  • Translate strategic goals into clear delivery plans, milestones and project controls
  • Prioritise projects based on value, risk, operational impact and resourcing
  • Monitor delivery against timelines and budgets, taking early action to resolve risks and bottlenecks
  • Act as the senior point of contact for contractors, suppliers and delivery partners, ensuring compliance and performance
  • Direct and support internal project teams, providing clarity, leadership and accountability
  • Maintain rigorous governance frameworks, approvals processes, and change controls
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Operations and external partners to ensure accurate forecasting and resource alignment
  • Lead operational readiness planning for new vessels, assets or sites coming into service
  • Drive continuous improvement by applying lessons learned and performance insights to future delivery

Skills & Experience

  • Significant project or programme delivery experience, ideally in transport, marine, infrastructure or public‑sector environments
  • Strong track record delivering complex capital projects over £5m
  • Experience coordinating internal teams and external contractors in multi‑disciplinary environments
  • Comfortable managing construction‑led workstreams, vessel or marine‑related upgrades, or customer‑facing infrastructure projects
  • Proficient in recognised project methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2, MSP, Agile)
  • Strong commercial judgement with experience in vendor management and contract oversight
  • Confident operating with senior stakeholders and executive leadership
  • Calm, structured and pragmatic under pressure, with strong problem‑solving skills

Behaviours & Approach

  • Clear communicator who builds trust across technical and non‑technical teams
  • Strategic thinker who can also move quickly when operational issues arise
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and bringing structure to evolving situations
  • Collaborative, steady under pressure, and confident leading others

Location

Based at Head Office in East London with occasional travel to project sites across the city. Working hybrid, but mostly on site, 4 days a week.

Salary

£85k (DOE)
