Overview

Vital Energi is looking for a Commissioning Engineer to join our specialist team in the South of England.

This role involves working away from home and traveling to various sites across the Midlands, London and Wales, supporting commissioning activities across energy centres, district heating networks, renewable systems and building services.

Responsibilities

  • Organise diary for carrying out works and mobilising equipment.
  • Organise documentation for the Commissioning Plan, project commissioning test packs, and check design information, clarifying with the Design Department.
  • Prepare and organise commissioning method statements, permits and demonstrations.
  • Produce and organise commissioning documentation for witnessing, including invitations and System Acceptance Certificates.
  • Create short‑term look‑ahead schedules for commissioning activities and witnessing.
  • Arrange aspects relating to water treatment from discharge licences to pump power‑up and demonstration.
  • Set up regular meetings where applicable and complete system acceptance.
  • Monitor and progress commissioning trackers, reporting to senior management.
  • Work with Design to ensure spool sections are included in pipeline works for side‑stream filters.
  • Review drawings for commissioning ability, flushing points and bypasses.
  • Undertake feasibility studies to determine in‑house capability and equipment needs.
  • Develop new commissioning methods and processes in line with European standards.
  • Attend relevant CPDs with the Design team.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Multi‑disciplined engineer with commissioning experience in biomass boilers, gas‑fired steam boilers, CHP, chillers or heat pumps.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning requirements including flushing points, bypasses, sequencing, testing and system acceptance.
  • Ability to review drawings for commissioning ability and liaise with the Design Department.
  • Capability to organise and progress commissioning programmes, trackers and witnessing schedules.
  • Strong communication skills for working with Design, O&M, Work Winning, District Heating and client representatives.
  • Strong technical problem‑solving ability and confidence in clarifying project requirements.
  • Experience with, or ability to develop in, PV (solar photovoltaic) commissioning—including inverter checks and electrical verification.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the South of England.
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes, side‑stream filtration, discharge licences and chemical suppliers.
  • Experience developing new commissioning methods and processes in line with evolving standards.
  • Familiarity with feasibility studies and identifying specialist equipment needs.
  • Experience supporting soft landings, aftercare or optimisation activities.
