£53,367.92 - £55,221.35 per year inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,997 per annum.

Are you an ambitious environmental health professional looking for both a fresh career challenge, and a better quality of life? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health Officer to join our professional and friendly team at Environmental Health within Infrastructure Services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual, with a capacity to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines, to provide a high quality service to the public, the business community and external organisations.

As the successful candidate, you will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as a sound knowledge of best practice and legislation. You would be required to undertake the full duties of an Environmental Health Officer, in accordance with legislative requirements and the Council’s policies and priorities.

The grade of this post is L. Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,997 per annum (pro rata).

Permanent Full Time post for 37.0 Hours per Week, 52.18 weeks per year. A relocation package does apply to this post. We will pay interview expenses from within the UK.

You must have the ability to travel throughout Shetland at short notice and where public transport is limited. We are happy to talk flexible working and would be willing to consider part time working hours.

Essential Education requirements are:

  • Possession of a degree in Environmental Health (or have received confirmation from Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) of the equivalency of other qualifications)
  • Membership of a relevant professional body e.g. REHIS or Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
