Help Shape the UKs Energy Future - Engineering Manager Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA). Supporting Sizewell C as part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will help build Sizewell C, a 3.2‑gigawatt low‑carbon power station that will generate electricity for around 6 million homes and supply reliable, clean power for at least 60 years. This role is within the Enabling and Earthwork Section and will begin in 2024.

What will you do? The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires an Engineering Manager who will lead, manage, and coordinate construction engineering for the Earthworks portion during the Engineering, Construction, and Installation (ECI) and Construction phases. Your focus will be to enable construction teams to deliver successfully on site. The areas of focus are:

  • Methods Engineering – Integrate design and construction methods through the technical lifecycle and manage contractors’ design integration of temporary works with the permanent works.
  • Digital Engineering – Conduct pre‑construction digital rehearsals and capture data during construction.
  • Right‑First‑Time construction engineering – Ensure quality, safety, sustainability, and economic viability of the works. Embed the principles of Method‑Led and Modern Methods of construction.
  • Develop technical solutions that consider site, legal, consenting, and construction constraints.
  • Define temporary works, manage delivery of temporary works designs, and secure all necessary approvals.
  • Define requirements for contractor permanent works design, develop scope and RACI documents, and source and manage contractor design resources.
  • Transfer lessons learned from previous First‑of‑a‑Kind projects to the Sizewell C next‑of‑a‑kind project.
  • Incorporate Assurance Requirements of the highly regulated nuclear environment into works definition, programme, and price.
  • Oversee site construction engineering, including quality assurance, materials testing, and surveying.

What are we looking for?

Knowledge & Skills – Essential: Design management experience; construction experience, including HSQE; good understanding of geotechnical engineering and soil behaviour; strong communication skills; project management skills (planning, scope definition); good digital skills including use of BIM; strong self‑discipline and time management; problem‑solving skills; creative thinking; teamwork.

Desirable: Experience in earthworks and temporary works; knowledge of industrial health and safety legislation and personal safety; basic CAD skills.

Qualifications & Experience – Essential: Civil engineering degree or equivalent.

Qualifications & Experience – Desirable: Chartered or working towards chartership within the next 1‑2 years.
