Project Engineer – Control Systems (SCADA/BMS)

About the Role We are seeking a Project Engineer to join an experienced engineering team delivering complex control system solutions within safety-critical environments. This role is suited to an engineer with experience in SCADA, BMS, PLCs or industrial control systems who is looking to develop their career within a technically challenging project environment. You will support the full engineering lifecycle, from specification and design through to installation, testing and commissioning. Working closely with Project Managers, Senior Engineers, clients and suppliers, you will play a key role in delivering reliable engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of control system engineering projects from concept through to completion.
- Produce engineering specifications, designs, drawings and technical documentation.
- Design and develop solutions to meet customer requirements and project specifications.
- Support testing, commissioning and site-based engineering activities.
- Assist with the management of technical interfaces between clients, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
- Review technical documentation and ensure solutions meet project, safety and quality requirements.
- Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
- Investigate engineering issues and support corrective actions when required.
- Assist Senior Engineers and Project Managers with project progress, risks and delivery milestones.
- Carry out site surveys and support installation activities.
- Prepare technical reports and communications for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of bids, quotations and technical proposals.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities and knowledge sharing within the engineering team.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience working within control systems, automation or a safety-critical engineering environment.
- Knowledge of SCADA and/or BMS systems.
- Experience with PLC-based control systems and industrial automation.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Experience supporting engineering projects through design, installation, testing and commissioning.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently, solve technical problems and manage priorities.
- Engineering qualification such as HNC, HND, BEng or equivalent experience.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within rail, transport, infrastructure or other regulated industries.
- Knowledge of safety standards, CDM regulations and quality procedures.
- Functional Safety knowledge or TÜV certification.
- Experience with PLC/HMI platforms such as:
- SilworX
- GX Works
- GOT HMI
- ICONICS
- Experience with programming/configuration using:
- C
- Assembler
- Visual Basic / scripting macros
- Familiarity with engineering software packages including:
- MS Office
- Visio
- CAD tools
