As an Assistant Civil Engineer, you will support the delivery of civil engineering designs across a range of development projects. You will work closely with senior engineers and a multidisciplinary team to produce drainage, highway, and infrastructure designs from concept through to construction. This role is ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to develop within a collaborative consultancy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of civil engineering designs, including:
- Drainage strategies and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
- Highway and access design (Section 278 works)
- Earthworks and cut & fill analysis
- Support feasibility studies and early-stage engineering appraisals
- Produce drawings, calculations, and technical reports for planning and approvals
- Assist in developing designs through to technical approval and construction stage
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including local authorities, utilities, and regulators
- Support flood risk assessments and surface water management strategies
- Coordinate with internal teams (architectural, structural, sustainability)
- Ensure compliance with relevant UK standards and regulations
- Support project delivery within agreed deadlines and budgets
Requirements
Essential:
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
- Basic understanding of drainage and highway design
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Site3D/Civil 3D, Causeway Flow or similar software
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
- Experience in a consultancy or design environment
- Knowledge of SuDS, flood risk, or earthworks modelling
- Working towards professional accreditation (e.g. ICE)
