As an Assistant Civil Engineer, you will support the delivery of civil engineering designs across a range of development projects. You will work closely with senior engineers and a multidisciplinary team to produce drainage, highway, and infrastructure designs from concept through to construction. This role is ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to develop within a collaborative consultancy environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of civil engineering designs, including:
    • Drainage strategies and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
    • Highway and access design (Section 278 works)
    • Earthworks and cut & fill analysis
  • Support feasibility studies and early-stage engineering appraisals
  • Produce drawings, calculations, and technical reports for planning and approvals
  • Assist in developing designs through to technical approval and construction stage
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including local authorities, utilities, and regulators
  • Support flood risk assessments and surface water management strategies
  • Coordinate with internal teams (architectural, structural, sustainability)
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK standards and regulations
  • Support project delivery within agreed deadlines and budgets

Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Basic understanding of drainage and highway design
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Site3D/Civil 3D, Causeway Flow or similar software
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in a consultancy or design environment
  • Knowledge of SuDS, flood risk, or earthworks modelling
  • Working towards professional accreditation (e.g. ICE)
