About the Role
We are looking for a driven and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our site engineering function and play a key role within the senior operations team.
You'll be responsible for ensuring plant reliability, delivering capital projects, and driving continuous improvement across engineering and site performance.
This is a high‑impact leadership role with real opportunity to influence operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the engineering team to deliver strong site performance.
- Ensure planned maintenance strategies maximise plant efficiency and minimise downtime.
- Manage engineering budgets and control costs in line with site objectives.
- Deliver capital projects on time and within budget, ensuring ROI.
- Drive continuous improvement across equipment, processes and energy usage.
- Maintain compliance with all Health & Safety, food safety and audit standards.
- Ensure effective spare parts management to support operational continuity.
- Work closely with production teams to optimise plant performance.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe systems of work at all times.
- Support and develop team capability through training and performance management.
Essential Criteria
- Dual‑skilled Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical).
- Proven experience in a leadership/line management role.
- Strong engineering background within manufacturing (food industry).
- Excellent organisational, communication and team‑building skills.
- Financial awareness with experience managing budgets.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, including Root Cause Analysis.
- Knowledge of key safety systems (LOTO, Permit to Work, Working at Height, Confined Space).
- Relevant qualifications (C&G/NVQ or equivalent).
Desirable Experience
- Experience within a cooked meats or food manufacturing environment.
- IOSH / NEBOSH certification.
- HACCP Level 3 / Food Safety Level 3/4.
- Knowledge of TACCP, Legionella, LOLER.
- Experience as Electrical or Asbestos Duty Holder.
