About the Role
The purpose of the Design Engineer is to manage projects that are assigned to them and to help deliver savings across the portfolio of components that are utilised on Ifor Williams Trailers.
These savings are supplied by our management and site leadership teams via our own internal systems.
The Design Engineer will facilitate the Projects and Design Changes as requested through our systems and assist in the validation of the design with the sites where it is used and ensure a smooth end to end delivery.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Design Team on Projects that are assigned to you.
- Ensure that the 3D Models, Assemblies and Drawings are suitable for Manufacture (Design for Manufacture).
- Act as point of contact for any issues arising from the Project Design or Design Change.
- Meticulous & accurate documentation skills.
- Ensuring that our MRP System is updated with the new data as required and all Engineering Change Documents are distributed around the business as required.
- Ensuring that Project Plans are kept up to date at all times.
- Ensure that Teams outside of the Design Department are kept up to date with how the projects are progressing, these include Production, Purchasing, Sales etc.
- Ensure that Designs are fit for purpose and are designed in accordance with Ifor Williams Standards for Strength and Durability.
- Must take ownership of the Project and Lead Design Reviews as required to deliver the Project to ensure that all key stakeholders are kept up to date as required.
- Advise of issues with the Project or its Delivery into the wider business.
Qualifications
- A degree in an Engineering/Design related subject.
- Experience using Solid Works 3D CAD Software, that can be demonstrated at an interview and capable of creating both Solid and Sheet Metal parts along with the associated Drawings.
- At least 7 Years experience in a similar role, preferably from a Commercial Trailers background or other manufacturing that has transferable skills.

- Computer literate and understand Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook etc).
- Work closely with our Design and Production Engineers, Site Leaders and Quality Engineers to deliver a Right First-Time solution.
- Looks forward to new challenges and ask questions.
- Able to accept instructions and take notes as required.
- Be an excellent Timekeeper.
- Willing to go the “Extra Mile” to achieve a goal.
- Practical understanding of modern manufacturing technology and processes.
- Experienced in the use of Solid Works 3D CAD Software and the creation of Engineering Drawings.
- Willingness to travel between all our sites to speak with other members of the team to ensure a Right First Time is delivered to Ifor Williams Trailers.
- An understanding of Solid Works PDM System is desirable but not essential.
