The Opportunity

MRD Recruitment is delighted to be working with a leading global manufacturing business to recruit an Applications Support Engineer based at their Grangemouth site. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a large-scale, complex industrial environment where you'll play a key role in supporting and maintaining business-critical applications across multiple business units.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a wide range of applications, from desktop software through to enterprise-level systems, within a Microsoft Windows environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting and troubleshooting business-critical applications
  • Managing and resolving incidents, including system outages
  • Assisting with application implementations, upgrades, and testing
  • Ensuring systems meet performance, security, and SLA requirements
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation and support procedures
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Supporting small-scale IT projects and system enhancements

You'll also participate in an on-call rota as part of the wider Applications team.

About You

We're looking for someone with strong application support experience in a complex, enterprise environment.

Essential:

  • Experience supporting desktop, client-server, and web-based applications
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills
  • Experience working in a Windows-based environment
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple support requests
  • Experience supporting both bespoke and third-party applications
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable:

  • Scripting or development exposure (e.g. PowerShell, VBA, JavaScript, .NET)
  • Experience with databases (SQL Server, Oracle)
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure)
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, Power Platform, or BI tools
  • Understanding of ITSM tools and ITIL processes
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or regulated environments
