The Opportunity
Waldron Engineering and Construction, Inc. is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join its consulting team in the energy industry. This position is for a highly motivated individual who is interested in taking on a leading role in project coordination while also performing production design and drafting tasks on industrial power distribution and projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of multi-discipline engineers and designers to develop comprehensive mechanical design documents for Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plants, campus and/or district energy systems, municipal scale power facilities and renewable energy facilities.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the creation of plant layout and installation drawings for mechanical equipment and process systems. The role requires in-depth knowledge of industrial process piping and ductwork design, equipment layout, and the ability to coordinate design development with other disciplines. The role also requires an extensive understanding of drawing development and graphic information presentation, experience with conceptualizing a complete set of design documents for a project, and a proven ability to identify and convey the salient design points required by contractors who will utilize these drawings to build new facilities. Experience with construction support and review of field conditions is also strongly desired for this position. The ability to visit project sites, obtain key dimensional information and translate this information into design documents is an asset in this position, as well as the ability to assist contractors with implementation of the design and troubleshooting of field conditions.
Responsibilities of the Role
- Utilises AutoCAD 2D and 3D, AutoCAD Plant3D, Revit, Navisworks, and other applicable CAD software to create engineering design drawings for different types of Energy related projects including:
- Process & Instrument Diagrams
- Piping Plans, Sections, and Isometrics
- Ductwork Plans, Sections and Details
- Installation Details for pumps, fans, instrumentation, control valves, etc.
- 3D Equipment Location Plans and General Arrangement Drawings.
- Pipe and Duct Support Details
- Review engineering submittals from equipment vendors and incorporate them into project drawings.
- Coordinate with system engineers to ensure design assumptions for hydraulics, pipe stress, thermal expansion, and other considerations are captured in the design.
- Coordinate with other internal discipline designers to achieve a successful project delivery.
- Coordinate with external consultants and vendors on design topics.
Desired Experience Level
7 or more years of process piping and/or power piping and plant design.
