The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Multi Skilled Operative to join a team delivering maintenance and repair services across Ministry of Defence domestic accommodation and facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, hands-on individual who enjoys variety and takes pride in delivering a high standard of workmanship.
No specific trade qualification is required. We are looking for an experienced handyperson or multi-skilled operative who can confidently undertake a broad range of repairs and maintenance tasks.
Based around MOD Lyneham and travelling between sites to Warminster, this role would ideally suit candidates living in the Swindon or Gloucester areas. Due to operational requirements, applicants living south of the area are unlikely to be suitable.
The Role
As a Multi Skilled Operative, no two days will be the same. You will carry out both planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Typical duties will include:
- General building repairs and maintenance
- Minor plumbing repairs and installations
- Basic plastering, tiling and decorating works
- Drainage and grounds maintenance tasks
- Carpentry repairs and other general handyman duties
- Diagnosing faults and determining the most effective repair solution
- Accurately recording work undertaken using electronic and paper-based systems
- Delivering excellent customer service while working within occupied properties and live environments
- Participating in an out-of-hours standby rota on a 1 in 8 basis
About You
We're looking for someone with a practical, can-do attitude who enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in their work.
You will have:
- Previous experience in a multi-trade, handyperson or maintenance role
- Experience carrying out repairs across a variety of trades rather than one specific discipline
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- A flexible and reliable approach to work
- A full UK driving licence
- Experience working within social housing, facilities management, maintenance services or defence environments would be advantageous but is not essential.
Security Requirements
Due to the nature of the work, all applicants must be able to obtain and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance.
