Overview

Project Engineer – Energy from Waste (EFW) – 3 year fixed-term contract.

Up to £75,000 + car allowance + benefits.

South Wales & Bristol area with travel.

This role focuses on delivering engineering changes to increase Maximum Continuous Rating (MCR), improve plant output, reliability, and overall performance across multiple EFW facilities.

You will work with OEMs, contractors, and site teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engineering projects to increase plant MCR across multiple sites.
  • Analyse boiler and plant performance to define engineering requirements.
  • Develop and review technical solutions with OEMs and contractors.
  • Integrate projects into planned outages and shutdowns.
  • Manage contractors to deliver work safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Produce and manage Management of Change (Mo C) documentation.
  • Support HAZOP reviews and ensure engineering compliance.
  • Attend site meetings, outage planning sessions, and factory acceptance tests (including occasional overseas travel).
  • Work closely with site operations, engineering, and central teams.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

  • A recognised engineering qualification at HNC level or higher in mechanical engineering or similar.
  • Experience within power, process, or similar heavy industry (EFW, biomass, CHP, oil & gas, chemical).
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance and engineering practices.
  • Understanding of pressure parts / boiler legislation.
  • Experience delivering complex engineering or project work.
  • Experience managing contractors and working to tight outage schedules.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • A good understanding of safe systems of work and permit procedures.
  • Full UK driving licence.
