A leading multidisciplinary building services consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the continued growth of their Cambridge office. This role will involve leading the mechanical delivery of technically challenging projects across science & research, healthcare, education, commercial and specialist sectors, with a strong pipeline of refurbishment and retrofit work. The successful candidate will join a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment with excellent long-term progression opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical building services design and project delivery
  • Managing projects through RIBA Stages 3 & 4
  • Producing and reviewing technical designs and specifications
  • Coordinating with internal disciplines and external stakeholders
  • Mentoring junior engineers and supporting team development
  • Client liaison and attendance at design meetings
  • Supporting project delivery, commercial performance and technical quality

At Principal level:

  • Team leadership
  • Resource planning
  • Bid support and input
  • Project financial oversight
  • Line management responsibilities

Requirements

  • Building services consultancy experience is essential
  • Strong mechanical/HVAC design background
  • Experience across sectors such as healthcare, laboratories, education or commercial projects
  • Familiarity with retrofit and refurbishment projects
  • Good knowledge of industry standards and regulations
  • Revit/AutoCAD experience
  • Strong communication and coordination skills

Salary & Benefits

  • Senior level typically £45K-£50K
  • Hybrid working (3 days office)
  • 9-day working fortnight - option to work slightly longer hours Monday to Friday across a two-week period, allowing employees to take every other Friday off while maintaining full salary
