About the Company

Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes (TCIL) is a design-build landscaping company headquartered in Buxton, ME. As of 2019, TCIL is an employee-owned company. We operate year-round and are not involved in landscape maintenance or snow-removal. We are looking for additional team members to join our crew and assist with hardscape and softscape installations throughout southern Maine. Our crew is comprised of creative, hardworking individuals who take pride in their work. Applicants with relevant experience are encouraged to apply. We are willing to train the right candidate. Strong candidates will demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, problem‑solving mindset, a desire to learn more about this trade, and a collaborative attitude.

Purpose

This position is responsible for the preparation, installation, and finishing of softscaping and hardscaping elements at client project sites and the maintenance of equipment and materials at company headquarters.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • This position reports to the Production Manager and Landscape Foreman.
  • Read and interpret design plans to install softscaping and hardscaping project elements.
  • Prepare project sites in readiness for installation, including safe removal of existing elements and careful handling of elements that will be repurposed.
  • Using a variety of materials, install hardscaping that includes terraces, patios, walkways, stairs, retaining walls, freestanding walls, fire pits, water features, and lighting.
  • Operate and safely use a variety of hand tools and power tools.
  • Working with a variety of materials, install softscaping that includes grading lawn or planting beds, defining flower beds, spreading loam and installing sod or grass seed, planting trees and shrubs, amending garden soil, applying mulch, and maintaining plant health.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate records of materials used during the installation of a project.
  • Coordinate with the Production Manager or Landscape Foreman on assigned tasks to clarify project scope and determine equipment and materials needed.
  • Communicate the status of assigned tasks to the Production Manager or Landscape Foreman and identify problems needing resolution.
  • Additional tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to regularly lift 15–50 lbs, occasionally lift 50–80 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, lift, kneel, bend, and otherwise move about the job site for the majority of the work shift.
  • Ability to perform manual labor and landscape‑specific tasks.
  • Available to work ten‑hour shifts, five days a week with optional weekend work during peak season.
  • Willing to have a background check performed.
  • Willing to comply with all standard operating procedures and policies of Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes.

Qualifications

  • Two years’ experience working in landscaping/hardscaping installation.
  • Demonstrated experience operating skid loaders and mini excavators.
  • Valid Class‑A/B commercial driver’s license.
  • Plant knowledge and understanding of ornamental horticultural practices.
