Command & Control Sub‑System Engineering Lead

World Class Defence Organisation based in Bristol is currently looking to recruit a Command & Control Sub‑System Engineering Lead subcontractor on an initial 6 month contract, with very likely extension.

The role will be onsite 3‑4 days per week.

A 4 day working week is OK (Monday to Thursday).

Overtime

Rate: Hours worked over the standard 37 hours per week will be paid at ‘time and a quarter’.

Hybrid / Remote working: The role will be onsite 3‑4 days per week.

A 4 day working week is OK (Monday to Thursday).

Duration: 6 months with very likely extension.

IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella).

Interview process: One stage video interview.

Who should apply: Candidates with a strong background as a Senior Systems Engineer, Systems Engineering Lead, Systems Engineering Team Lead, Principal Systems Engineer, Lead Systems Engineer, Systems Architect or Technical Lead within a systems engineering and Defence or Aerospace environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day‑to‑day management, direction and technical leadership (including activity tracking and project reporting) of the multi‑functional Common Architecture Team (CAT).
  • Lead the capture, derivation, and refinement of subsystem requirements for the Command & Control subsystem.
  • Work collaboratively with the CAT to deliver the Command & Control sub‑system functional architecture.
  • Identify and capture functional risks, opportunities, issues, and assumptions and their associated mitigation strategies.

Skillset / Experience

  • Product development / systems thinking mindset.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience across the systems engineering / product development lifecycle, with an emphasis on successful project delivery.
  • Experience of functional design and development.
  • Proactive and self‑managing, with an ability to work under pressure to deliver successful outcomes on demanding timescales.
  • Practical knowledge and experience of system engineering processes and tools (e. g. IBM Rhapsody, IBM DOORS, IBM Engineering Workflow Management).
  • Experience designing complex systems in a defence or other highly regulated environment.
  • Experience working in or leading a cross‑functional engineering teams.
  • Experience developing air defence or LDEW complex weapon systems.
