In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).
The Position: Cost Engineer
The Cost Engineer will be part of the Integrated Project Controls team within Hinkley Point C. The team acts as a centre of excellence for project controls implementation, providing a single source of delivery performance information. It operates across a matrix organisation supporting various Hinkley Point C project programmes, including Central, Site, Engineering, MEH, Nuclear Island, Conventional Island, Balance of Plant, Instrumentation and Controls, and Commissioning. They will be responsible for managing and controlling the finances of projects or programmes using appropriate tools to analyse the performance of the schedule/plan. Cost Engineers should report the cost performance of the plan to senior members of the team and communicate effectively with stakeholders responsible for delivering the plan to ensure that it is representative of current progress.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Cost Engineer will include:
- Developing, managing and updating project and programme plans including full costing, development of WBSs, resource management, cost management of risk and critical path review, using appropriate software and tools.
- Managing the change control as the project/programme scope changes, using the correct processes and updating the necessary configuration documentation.
- Understanding the need for project baseline control and different types of baseline change.
- Understanding the tools (e.g. EVM) to assess project cost performance against the baseline schedule.
- Understanding risk and opportunities and integrating the cost of these strategies effectively into the plan/schedule.
- Understanding project control methodologies and processes for programme and project management.
- Producing monthly reports.
- Integrating with project estimates, schedules and performing the cost management requirements.
Profile:
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
- Experience working as a Cost Engineer on major infrastructure, energy or highly regulated projects.
- Understanding of cost management methodologies and techniques.
- Ability to understand and use cost management software.
- Understanding of earned value analysis.
- Reside locally to Bridgwater or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
