A Local Authority is seeking a qualified Environmental Health Officer to support its Regulatory Services team, focusing on food complaints and health & safety investigations. The role may also require food hygiene inspections, so suitable qualification and competency is essential. This is an interim role with a permanent opportunity expected to be advertised in the coming months.

Pay & Working Pattern

  • Rate: Up to £40 per hour (Ltd)
  • Hours: 1–2 days per week
  • Location: Bournemouth / Hybrid
  • Contract: 6 months initially

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate food safety and health & safety complaints
  • Undertake food hygiene inspections where required
  • Gather evidence and produce clear enforcement reports
  • Liaise with businesses, complainants, and partner agencies
  • Maintain accurate case records and support enforcement action

Requirements

  • Environmental Health qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience in food safety and/or health & safety enforcement
  • Competency to carry out food hygiene inspections
  • Strong investigation, communication, and report writing skills
  • Ability to work independently on complaint-led cases
