Field Service Supervisor - Commercial Refrigeration Service Supervisor
The Field Service Supervisor (FSS) is a hands-on leader focused on field presence, technician development, and customer engagement.
The FSS reports directly to the Field Service Manager and is responsible for the performance, development, and engagement of assigned technicians within their region.
The FSS is expected to maintain strong visibility in the field, spending most of the time working alongside technicians and clients to ensure quality service, safety compliance, and skill development.
The Field Service Supervisor is accountable for technician performance, client satisfaction, and service quality within their assigned region.
Success in this role is measured by technician development progress, reduction in callbacks, and consistent client satisfaction scores.
- Key Responsibilitie
- Supervise, coach, train, and mentor field service technicians.
- Spend at least 80% of time in the field, with a target of 85-90% percent during peak seasons.
- Demonstrate visible leadership in the field by spending most of the time in the field turning a wrench, leading by example, and assisting with complex service calls.
- Provide direct training and mentorship through ride-a longs, job shadowing, and structured on-the-job training.
- Conduct frequent store visits, walk-thoughs, and spot checks to maintain service quality and client satisfaction.
- Required to visit each store in your region at least once a month.
- Required to spend at least 4 days per week in stores, with one day per week in the office for administrative work, closing out work orders, and alarm eradication strategies.
- Serve as primary point of client contact and Cold Tech’s ambassador in your assigned region by maintaining strong, proactive communication.
- Serve as an on-site resource for clients, addressing any issues directly to continuously enhance Cold Tech’s reputation.
- Identify and correct technician skill gaps in the field, with a focus on developing technicians for long-term success.
- Ensure safety, quality, and company standards are consistently upheld on all job sites.
- Partner with Service Manager to align field operations with company goals and customer expectations.
- Maintain clear communication with management, peers, and clients through timely reporting, documentation of field activities, and participation in leadership meetings.
- Serve as a safety champion by enforcing compliance, performing job site audits, and modeling safe work practices.
- Leadership and Development
- Build and promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, technical growth, and continuous learning and development.
- Act as the primary trainer for new and developing technicians, ensuring consistent onboarding and progression.
- Lead shadowing programs and ensure every technician has clear development objectives.
- Model best practices in technical work, customer interaction, and problem-solving.
- Partner with management and HR to highlight training needs and to create development plans.
- Identify and mentor high-potential technicians for advancement within the company.
- Encourage continuous improvement and lead by example, demonstrating Cold Tech’s commitment to excellence and professional development.
Qualifications and Skills
- High School Diploma with trade school or equivalent; advanced technical or supervisory training .
- At least five years of proven field experience in refrigeration, HVAC, or related systems.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration, HVAC, controls, electrical systems, and troubleshooting methods.
- Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain client trust as the company ambassador in the field.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and lead technicians in real-world conditions.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with a coaching-oriented leadership style.
- Proficient in technical troubleshooting and repair; comfortable serving as a lead technician.
- Ability to manage and maintain the workload effectively.
