Responsibilities
- Create engineering drawings and models for electrical substations using AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Map 3D (P4A).
- Produce specifications and material requirements for substation projects, emphasizing safety, quality, scheduling and cost control.
- Develop and modify scaled 2D drawings and 3‑D models of foundations, grounding, conduit, switchgear assembly, electrical bus, and other substation components.
- Specify and order stock, non‑stock and shop‑fabricated material.
- Transmit drawing packages and supporting specifications via the Transmission Engineering job transmittal program.
- Coordinate and communicate with engineering teams, field services, project management, and vendor representatives.
- Support Substation Construction, Field Services, Project Management, and Maintenance activities, including site visits and travel.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior design personnel.
- Assist with storm restoration efforts and standardization of design criteria.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or associate degree with 5–7 years of relevant experience (or high‑school diploma with >8 years of experience).
- Strong knowledge of electrical substation equipment and power‑system theory.
- Experience with transmission and/or distribution substation operations at a utility.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SDS Inventor or similar 3‑D modeling tools.
- Experience with document‑management, estimating systems, Primavera P6 and progress reporting software.
- Good command of Microsoft Office products.
- Strong understanding of the Electric Safety Code, NEC, OSHA and related operating practices.
- Ability to create/interpret 2‑D drawings and 3‑D models from single‑line or three‑line diagrams.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, time‑management and problem‑solving skills.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25 % and work in a remote/virtual environment.
