We are looking for an experienced Rail Engineer with a strong background in Rolling Stock maintenance and repair to transition into an assessment role. As a Rail Engineering Assessor you will support 19+ apprentices across the West Midlands, assess learners in the workplace, provide guidance and feedback, monitor progress, and ensure apprentices develop the required knowledge, skills and behaviours for success in Rolling Stock maintenance and repair.
Responsibilities
- Assess Rail Engineering apprentices across the West Midlands.
- Focus on Rolling Stock maintenance and repair apprenticeships.
- Work with 19+ apprentices in workplace and training environments.
- Support apprentices with progress, evidence gathering and skills development.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance throughout the apprenticeship journey.
- Manage a caseload of apprentices across the local Birmingham / West Midlands area.
- Typical travel radius of around 10‑15 miles from Birmingham.
- Full‑time role available, 37 hours per week.
- Assessor training and additional development provided where required.
- Mileage covered for travel, with holiday pay accrued and paid in line with the hourly structure.
Qualifications
- Level 3 qualification in Rail Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Strong rolling‑stock maintenance and repair experience; hands‑on experience working on trains/rolling stock essential.
- Assessor qualification highly desirable but not essential; prior assessing experience highly desirable.
- Candidates coming directly from industry will be considered.
- Consistent, reliable, and committed to supporting apprentices.
- Strong communication skills and a genuine motivation to move into education.
- Based within a commutable distance of Birmingham / the West Midlands.
