Director – Infrastructure Engineering

This hugely respected multidisciplinary consultancy with reach across the UK is seeking to make a key appointment to their successful business which has a clear ambition to significantly grow income and strengthen its position as a trusted advisor across key markets. They are seeking a Head of Market (Infrastructure) to lead, shape and accelerate this market nationally. Whilst not a technical role the position is more about growth, client and market leadership. The company sees the Infrastructure Market as a critical part of their strategy underpinning Energy and Utilities integration, Transport and connectivity infrastructure, strategic land promotion and major development delivery. As the face of Infrastructure for the group you will possess over 20 years experience in the industry and have the ability to define and lead the Infrastructure market strategy, drive pipeline and conversion, and position the group as a market leader in infrastructure market. There is a significant work-winning concentration whilst being supported by a trusted pool of staff.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement a clear Infrastructure market strategy
- Identify priority sub‑sectors (e.g. transport, energy, utilities, public infrastructure)
- Build a target client and opportunity map
- Lead market insight and positioning activity
Market Leadership
- Build and maintain senior‑level client relationships
- Act as trusted advisor to key clients and stakeholders
- Represent the group at industry forums and events
Work Winning & Pipeline
- Take ownership of pipeline and conversion
- Lead major bids and strategic pursuits
- Personally originate high‑value opportunities
- Drive repeat work and framework positioning
Internal Leadership
- Work with Market Directors, Regional Directors and discipline leads to align capability to market opportunity, ensure resources are deployed effectively, influence multidisciplinary teams (not line manage), and provide clear market direction across the business
- Accountable for market revenue growth, pipeline health, conversion rates and reporting to and representing Infrastructure markets into the Growth Board
Qualifications
- Proven track record in infrastructure‑related sectors, such as transport (principally highways, some rail), energy/power/utilities and public infrastructure delivery
- Demonstrable success in winning work and building pipeline, leading major client relationships, and operating at a strategic level
- Strong market sector exposure within engineering consultancies or contractors, and a career steeped in infrastructure, currently working within a multidisciplinary consultancy
