This is a genuinely hands‑on Design Engineer opportunity where you’ll be part of a 3‑person design team, working alongside manufacturing and seeing your ideas become reality on the same site. We’re an established, agile UK engineering SME with over 200 employees, supplying high-performance products directly to global Tier 1 OEMS We’re looking for an experienced Design Engineer to take real ownership of mechanical design projects from concept through to production. Commutable from: Birmingham, Walsall, Sutton Coldfield, Moseley, Wolverhampton, Halesowen, Redditch, Aston, Willenhall, Wednesbury, Dudley, Solihull, Kingswinford and Tamworth
- Own the design and engineering data for new and existing products.
- Create high-quality 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
- Take designs from concept → development → validation → production.
- Lead the early design stages of APQP/NPI projects.
- Collaborate with test engineers on verification, validation and FMEA-led testing.
- Identify opportunities for VAVE, material improvements and new manufacturing techniques.
- Continuously improve existing products, processes and designs.
What we are looking for
- Degree-level qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Design – or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong commercial experience taking mechanical designs from concept through to manufacture.
- Advanced SolidWorks skills, including complex assemblies and detailed production drawings.
- Good knowledge of APQP, DFM/DFMA, FMEA and VAVE.
- Experience designing for sheet metal fabrication and assembly would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of aluminium extrusions, including design and manufacturing limitations.
- Experience with plastic injection mouldings, including tooling and material considerations.
