About the Role
Join Johnson Controls Marine & Navy HVAC & Refrigeration team in Basildon, Essex, where we build and commission high‑quality HVAC/R systems for naval vessels. We are looking for an experienced HVAC/R Commissioning Technician to commission naval HVAC and refrigeration units, ensuring they meet strict performance, safety, and regulatory standards. This hands‑on role is primarily based in our Basildon test facility, with travel to UK naval sites and occasional international assignments.

Key Responsibilities
- Commission ATUs and associated HVAC systems in the test bay and on customer sites
- Perform electrical and mechanical hookup, calibration, and functional testing
- Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and support integration activities
- Ensure full compliance with F‑Gas regulations, including leak checks, recovery, and documentation
- Diagnose and resolve commissioning issues, providing feedback to engineering teams
- Produce accurate test reports and handover documentation
- Maintain and calibrate test equipment, ensuring safety and quality standards are upheld
- Travel for site work and customer support, including occasional overnight stays
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Valid F‑Gas Certification (Category I or II)
- Proven experience in commissioning and FAT of HVAC/refrigeration systems
- Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Flexibility to travel across the UK and internationally
- Valid driving licence
- Eligibility for UK BPSS and SC security clearances (or ability to obtain)
Desirable Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or formal training in refrigeration/HVAC
- Experience working in naval or marine environments
- PLC/microprocessor knowledge or experience with HVAC control systems
