Job Description
Summary of Duties
The role requires keeping equipment and machinery in optimum operational condition.
This includes heavy mobile plant such as excavators, wheel loaders, balers and other relevant equipment used within the metal recycling industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnosis and resolution of breakdown problems.
- Respond rapidly to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
- Ensure all machinery is maintained to a high standard and capable of operating in line with company standards.
- Comply with all machine operating systems.
- Keep accurate records of all machinery on site.
- Complete and maintain all documentation on the CMM.
- Make written and/or verbal reports to line managers as required.
- Attend progress meetings with line managers as and when required.
- Carry out any additional duties that may be reasonably requested from time to time.
- Comply with company policies and procedures as defined in the employee manual and the post holder's terms & particulars of employment.

- Ability to strip down and rebuild hydraulic, mechanical components on heavy machines.
- Ability to understand technical drawings relating to machinery.
- Working knowledge of diesel engine maintenance.
- IT literate with ability to use a range of packages applicable to the role.
- Driving licence.
Desirable Skills
- HNC qualifications in a relevant subject area.
- Capability of diagnosing component‑level hydraulic faults.
- Ability to operate basic machine shop machinery (lathes, milling machines, etc.).
- Working knowledge of 3‑phase electrics.
- Competent in lifting and slinging (training provided).
- ONC level qualifications or equivalent.
- NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant subject.
- Ability to work in a clean room environment.
- Relative experience in metal recycling and other associated processes.
