A globally recognised organisation is looking for an experienced Automation Test Engineer to help deliver secure, reliable and high-quality digital services across major public sector transformation programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to join Agile engineering teams building cloud applications using modern test automation practices. The Automation Test Engineer will play a key role in embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle, working across UI, API, accessibility and performance testing while supporting continuous delivery at enterprise scale.

Responsibilities for the Automation Test Engineer:

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable UI and API automation frameworks
  • Build automated test suites using Java, Selenium, REST Assured and Cucumber BDD
  • Develop and execute functional, regression, integration and end to end automated tests
  • Perform UI automation using Selenium WebDriver and Playwright
  • Carry out API testing using REST Assured, Postman and Swagger
  • Conduct accessibility testing to ensure compliance with WCAG standards
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and continuous testing throughout the development lifecycle
  • Work closely with developers, DevOps engineers, Business Analysts and Product Owners
  • Contribute to performance and load testing using K6
  • Support testing across AWS cloud environments and event driven architectures

Essential Skills for the Automation Test Engineer:

  • Strong commercial experience with Java based test automation
  • Hands on experience with Selenium WebDriver, REST Assured, Playwright and Cucumber BDD
  • Experience building and maintaining automation frameworks from scratch
  • Strong knowledge of UI and API automation best practices
  • Experience testing REST APIs using Postman, Swagger and JSON/XML validation
  • Experience across the full software testing lifecycle
  • Knowledge of accessibility testing using tools such as WAVE, AXE DevTools and VoiceOver
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git and Maven
  • Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies and Jira
  • Exposure to AWS cloud technologies and Kafka

Desirable Skills for the Automation Test Engineer:

  • Experience testing cloud and distributed systems
