We are seeking a dedicated Shift Engineer to join a leading manufacturer in Wrexham. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of production machinery and site services within our food manufacturing environment. The Shift Engineer will focus on minimizing downtime, maintaining food safety standards, and supporting production targets.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and packaging equipment.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, performing effective fault diagnosis and repair.
  • Ensure all machinery operates in line with food safety and hygiene standards (e.g., HACCP).
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete all documentation.
  • Work closely with production teams to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations.
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain utilities such as steam, refrigeration, and compressed air systems.
  • Identify root causes of recurring faults and implement corrective actions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proactive and hands‑on approach.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance or shift engineer in a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Strong electrical and/or mechanical engineering skills.
  • Experience with PLC fault finding (desirable).
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced production environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable to shift work.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Safety‑conscious mindset.
  • Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
  • Electrical certification (e.g., 18th Edition) – desirable.
