The Role:

An opportunity has arisen for a Project Development Engineer with strong CAD/CAM and CNC machining experience to join the business. This is a varied, hands-on engineering role where you will support manufacturing improvement, process development, and new product introduction activities. The successful candidate will be comfortable working both strategically and practically on the shop floor, helping to improve manufacturing capability, reduce defects, and optimise production performance within an ISO13485 and GMP-controlled environment. This role would particularly suit candidates from medical device manufacturing or other regulated industries such as aerospace or automotive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve manufacturing methods, processes, and tooling concepts.
  • Program, operate, and support CNC machinery and manual production processes.
  • Use CAD/CAM systems to support manufacturing and process improvements.
  • Analyse production trends, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive Lean manufacturing initiatives including Kaizen, VSM, and PFMEA activities.
  • Work closely with planning and design teams to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Support validation projects, SOP creation, and process documentation.
  • Ensure GMP, ISO13485, and health & safety standards are maintained.
  • Provide KPI reporting and project updates to management.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong CAD/CAM and CNC machining experience is essential.
  • Experience with Alpha CAM and/or SolidWorks would be highly advantageous.
  • Happy to remain hands-on within a production and engineering environment.
  • Experience within regulated manufacturing industries.
  • Good understanding of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible team player with a proactive approach.
