1st Step Solutions are supporting one of the UK’s leading Engineering Services companies who have an opportunity for a Mechanical Estimator in Witham on a permanent basis. This role will support the successful delivery of high-quality building services projects by producing accurate and competitive mechanical estimates across a range of sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, residential, and infrastructure.
Working within a collaborative pre-construction team, the successful candidate will play a key role in tender preparation, cost planning, and value engineering while maintaining the high standards associated with our client.
Key Responsibilities- Preparation of detailed mechanical estimates from drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
- Carry out accurate take-offs for HVAC, plumbing, pipework, and mechanical services installations
- Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
- Produce competitive tender submissions within agreed deadlines
- Review project risks, opportunities, and value engineering options
- Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, and internal operational teams throughout the tender process
- Attend tender review meetings and site visits where required
- Support the handover of secured projects to delivery teams
- Maintain estimating records and contribute to continuous improvement within the department
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the building services or MEP sector
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services systems
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Commercial awareness and strong analytical skills
- Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tenders simultaneously
- Full UK driving licence
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Experience working on large-scale commercial or public sector projects
- Knowledge of current industry regulations and standards
