The Company

Our client is a well-established UK manufacturer specialising in innovative life safety products. With a strong reputation for engineering excellence, they design and manufacture market-leading solutions that protect people and property across the UK and internationally. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Compliance Manager to join their Research & Development team.

The Role

This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for managing all product compliance, approvals and certification activities across a portfolio of regulated electronic products. Working closely with the R&D team, you will ensure products meet UK and international regulatory standards, oversee internal verification and EMC testing, and manage relationships with external certification bodies.

Alongside your technical responsibilities, you will lead a specialist compliance team, providing guidance, support and direction to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and compliantly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all product approval, certification and re-certification activities.
  • Act as the technical expert for compliance with EN54 fire detection and alarm standards.
  • Manage in-house verification and EMC testing before external certification or product release.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of compliance and verification engineers.
  • Coordinate testing and approvals with third‑party certification bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with UKCA, CE, CPR, EMC, LVD and RED regulations.
  • Maintain technical documentation including Declarations of Conformity, Declarations of Performance and Technical Construction Files.
  • Monitor changes to legislation and industry standards, advising the business on any impacts.
  • Support continuous improvement across compliance processes and product development.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in compliance and product certification within a regulated electronics environment.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Significant experience in product compliance, approvals or certification.
  • Strong knowledge of EN54 standards and third‑party approval processes.
  • Experience carrying out EMC and verification testing.
  • Excellent understanding of UKCA, CE, CPR, EMC, LVD and RED requirements.
  • Previous people management or team leadership experience.
  • Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Engineering or a related discipline.

Desirable Experience

  • Electronics Engineering background.
  • Experience working with certification bodies such as BSI, LPCB, VdS or UL.
  • Hands‑on experience using EMC or environmental test facilities.
  • Knowledge of international product approvals.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or Factory Production Control (FPC).
  • Background in fire detection, security systems, audio or other safety‑critical electronic products.
