About the role:
- Rotate through all areas of the Infectious Sciences laboratory (Bacteriology, Parasitology, Virology, Molecular, Mycology) subject to training.
- Perform and interpret routine and specialist biomedical investigations autonomously in line with local working practices and quality standards.
- Work independently, implement and propose changes to procedures for own work area, and may act as lead specialist.
- Continue personal development through academic and/or practical experience.
- Provide professional leadership and training to Basic Grade staff, trainee BMS, associate practitioners and medical laboratory assistants.
- Maintain professional standards required by the Health Professions Council and comply with health and safety regulations.
- Provide technical advice to clinicians on test appropriateness and timescales.
- Assist with duties in health and safety, audit, training, incident reporting and quality assurance/quality control.
- Operate new generation Kiestra automated platform as part of the laboratory’s innovation strategy.
- Work on a 7‑day rota including out‑of‑hours on‑call, weekend and bank holiday shifts, with pay enhancements.
Qualifications:
- BSc Degree accredited by the Healthcare Professions Council and IBMS.
- HCPC Registration.
- Specialist Portfolio in Microbiology or equivalent experience prior to portfolio release.
- Minimum salary threshold for visa sponsorship is £45,900; visa sponsorship requires appointment at the top of NHS Band 6 pay scale.
