I’m working directly with a growing main contractor based near Ebbsfleet who are looking to bring in a Quantity Surveyor due to continued project wins and a steadily expanding pipeline. This is a business that’s grown quickly over the last 7–8 years to around £25m turnover, but importantly, they’re not trying to grow recklessly. The growth is now more controlled and stable, with a strong order book already in place. The business was set up by people who came from larger contractor environments and they’re open to candidates from both Tier 1 and Tier 2 backgrounds - but equally, this could suit someone from a smaller contractor who wants better exposure and support.

The Role

  • Working within an established commercial team currently made up of 3 QSs
  • Looking after retail accounts and fast-track refurbishment projects
  • Typical project values up to £3m
  • Typical programme lengths around 8 weeks
  • Procurement, subcontractor management, valuations, variations & final accounts
  • Weekly commercial sit‑downs every Monday
  • Monthly CVR / cost‑value reconciliation meetings
  • Mix of office‑based working and site visits

This isn’t a role where you’ll be left on an island, but equally they want someone who can grow into the position and take ownership over time.

What they’re looking for

  • Quantity Surveyor with contractor experience
  • Open on background – Tier 1, Tier 2 or smaller contractor environments considered
  • Someone in that middle‑ground level – able to learn but also contribute straight away
  • Strong personality fit is important
  • Commercially aware, organised and willing to get stuck in
  • Someone with energy, character and a bit about them personally

The Business

  • Main contractor delivering refurbishment and fit‑out projects
  • Approx. £25m turnover
  • Northfleet office location – close to Ebbsfleet station
  • Office‑based culture with support from senior leadership
  • Car allowance included

Good opportunity for someone wanting proper exposure, support from experienced people, and the chance to grow with a business that’s clearly moving in the right direction.
